We offer imaging solutions for the Automotive, Medical Imagining, Mobile Devices, Surveillance and Drone and laptop computer industries. Omnivision has expressed that OV64A test units are now in the possession of cell phone OEMs, and that it will go into large scale manufacturing by the last quarter of 2020. OmniVision OV64A 64MP Lens. OmniVision, the world’s third-largest mobile phone image sensor company, has announced the launch of the OmniVision OV64A image sensor. It is said to be the world’s first large optical format 1.0-micron 64-megapixel image sensor, further enhancing the low-light performance of mobile phones and supporting up to 30 frames per second 8K video. OmniVision recognizes that every end market has application-specific requirements that cannot be addressed by a one-size-fits-all solution. With dedicated product development teams working closely with supply chain partners and customers, OmniVision is able to deliver a wide variety of CMOS image sensor technologies uniquely suited for each target marketplace. OmniVision has just announced a new smartphone camera sensor. The new sensor is subbed the OV40A, which is a 40 megapixel image sensor, that is developed to be paired with next generation.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OmniVision Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced in advance of CES the OV40A, a 40MP, 1.0 micron pixel image sensor that features super high gain and de-noise technologies for the best-in-class low-light camera performance in the 1/1.7” optical format. This sensor also offers multiple high dynamic range (HDR) options for the best quality still and video captures. Additionally, it supports 1080p slow-motion and high-speed video captures at 240 frames per second (fps) with phase-detection autofocus.

“TSR estimates there will be 855 million image sensors with 40MP or higher resolution shipped to smartphone manufacturers in 2021, which presents a huge opportunity for this new image sensor,” said James Liu, senior technical marketing manager at OmniVision. “The OV40A’s unique combination of features is bringing flagship-level performance to the main, wide, ultrawide and video cameras in this fast-growing market segment.”

Devices

The OV40A is designed for best-in-class performance with many industrial, cutting-edge technologies. It supports super high gain of up to 256x, and is embedded with multi-sampling de-noise functionality for enhanced low-light performance. This sensor also offers excellent HDR through selective conversion gain for the optimum balance between low-light image quality and HDR, along with 2- and 3-exposure staggered HDR timing. These features provide designers with maximum flexibility to select the best HDR method for the contrasting light and dark areas in a given scene.

Built on OmniVision’s PureCel® Plus-S stacked die technology, the OV40A integrates an on-chip, 4-cell (4C) color filter array and hardware remosaic, which provides high quality, 40MP Bayer output in real time. For low-light conditions, this sensor can use near-pixel binning to output a 10MP image, as well as 4K2K and 1080p video, with four times the sensitivity, yielding 2.0 micron pixel-equivalent low-light performance. In either case, the OV40A can consistently capture the highest quality images for different resolution video modes through fast mode switch.

Output formats include 40MP at 30 fps, 10MP with 4C binning at 120 fps, 4K2K video at 60 fps and 1080p video at 240 fps. All of these formats can be captured with phase-detection autofocus. Other features include a CPHY interface, multi-camera sync and a 34.7 degree chief ray angle.

Samples of the new OV40A image sensor are available now. Contact your OmniVision sales representative for more information: www.ovt.com/contact-sales.
